Understanding the "Baby Blues" vs. Postpartum Depression

It's vital for new mothers to understand the difference in order to request help when appropriate:

The "Baby Blues"

Usually begins 2-3 days after delivery and subsides naturally within two weeks. Characterized by mild mood swings, weeping, irritability, and slight sleep disruptions due to massive hormonal fluctuations.

Postpartum Depression (PPD)

A more intense clinical condition that can arise anytime during the first year. Characterized by severe mood swings, intense anxiety, detachment from your baby, overwhelming fatigue, and difficulty performing basic daily tasks. Requires clinical care and therapy.
